Planning is a very biblical concept.
Proverbs 15: 22
Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
Luke 14:28
Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
There is an earthly way to enter the new year and there’s a godly way. As Christians, it’s our responsibility to move forward in our life working out our salvation in a godly way each year.
New Year’s Resolutions
Earthly: here’s my list of things I will do to change my life
Godly: here’s my list that God spoke to me of things He wants me to work on and things He will do in me this year
Your resolutions this year can be earthly or godly..what’s it gonna be?
Be Hopeful for Change
Earthly: 2020 WILL BE different, 2019 doesn’t matter anymore
Godly: 2020 will be a year that I press into Jesus and see HIM change things in me and through me.
Saying I want to be different doesn’t change anything, so don’t rely on a new year or a new list of goals, but if a new year gives you the oomph you need, then take it and DO SOMETHING with it.
Jeremiah 29:11-14a
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord,
Micah 7:8
Do not gloat over me, my enemy!
Though I have fallen, I will rise.
Though I sit in darkness,
the Lord will be my light.
2 Corinthians 4:7-9
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
What’s been your battle and how are you going to respond different this year.
January 1, 2020 does not mark the change of your circumstances and it definitely does not erase all that happened in 2019.
But it does mark an opportunity for you to choose to trust God and to actively work towards great things WITH Him. Because He’s the same yesterday, today and forever.
