There have been so many times where my family and I have been desperate for God to show up, and He always has! When we are faithful to obey God,
and devote all of our lives to his purposes
, He takes care of us.
The story of Joseph shows this so well:
Jospeh Gets Sold into Slavery
Joseph’s brothers were jealous of him, because he was his father’s favorite and he was given prophetic dreams by God. His 11 brothers wanted to kill him, but Reuben and Judah talked the others out of it.
Genesis 37:26-28
26 Judah said to his brothers, “What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? 27 Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood.” His brothers agreed.
28 So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.
Genesis 39:2-4
2 The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant.
Joseph is desperate, he’s being Faithful and Trusting God, and God is taking care of him.
Joseph Gets Falsely Accused
While working for Potiphar, Potiphar’s wife makes the move on him, and tries to get him to sleep with her, but he rejects her.
Genesis 39:11-12
11 One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. 12 She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.
Potiphar’s wife then lies to Potiphar, and says that Joseph tried to sleep with her, so he gets kicked out and put in prison.
Genesis 39:20-23
But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
Joseph is desperate, he’s being Faithful and Trusting God, and God is taking care of him.
Joseph is Forgotten
The King of Egypt ended up sending his chief cupbearer and the chief baker to prison too. They both had dreams and Joseph, believing that God could interpret the dreams, told them what their dreams meant. It ended up really good to the cupbearer, and he got his job back, but he forgot about Jospeh. Eventually he remembers Joseph, and Joseph interprets the King's dream.
Genesis 41:15-16
15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” 16 “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”
Genesis 41:39-40
39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. 40 You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.”
Joseph is desperate, he’s being Faithful and Trusting God, and God is taking care of him.
Joseph always chose FAITHFULNESS: giving everything he had to the Kingdom of God.
Joseph always chose TRUST: believing that God was going to take care of him.
- When you are in a hard place,
don’t give up, because you are not alone.
Hebrews 13:5
Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.
- Live a life of faithfulness.
1 Timothy 6:11-12
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called…
- Trust in God.
Isaiah 12:2
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid.
The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation.”
