Worship Through the Psalms

Why Sing?

We sing because the God of the universe has made his salvation and his person known to us, corporately and personally
- He has remembered his love and faithfulness to Israel
  All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

2 Chronicles 7:1-3
"When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. The priests could not enter the temple of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled it. When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying ‘He is good; his love endured forever.’”
We sing because God gives earthly victories
- So the people had a festival to worship all of God’s victories in Israel, then:
- 2 Chronicles 7:10
  “On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent his people to their homes, joyful and glad in heart for the good things the Lord had done for David and Solomon and for his people Israel."
We sing because salvation is for everyone, and it is spreading!

And God wants to use us, as imperfect as we are, to spread his word and bring salvation to the world!
Matthew 28:18-20
“The Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"

What Is Our Response?

We see several examples in the Bible of people seeing God’s victory and bursting out into song:

Make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing!
We sing with instruments, without instruments, however we can
With trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn
shout for joy (make a joyful noise) before the Lord, the King!
Our songs to God are powerful, too!
Joshua 6:16, 20
16 The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city! 20When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.

What Is Creation’s Response?

Let the sea resound, and everything in it;
the world and all those who live in it!
Let the rivers clap their hands; let the mountains sing together for joy

What’s Next?

Let them sing before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples with equity.
Even all of this praise-our singing, our rejoicing, our joyful noises, and all of the worship of all of creation-are only a tiny glimpse of what’s next

Rev 21:11, 22-23
11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
Revelation 7:9-10
9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”

If you confess Christ as Lord, this is your future. Whether it is by death on earth or the coming of Christ, this is your future.
THAT is victory worth singing about.
