LOVE
Where does the world get its opinions about love?
- Pop culture
- Social media
- Family traditions
- Personal experience
Our opinions about love are not to be informed/shaped by things of the world but by by Scripture.
1 John 4:7-10: “Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
3 Truths about God's Love:
- God's love is experienced relationally
- God's love is made known to us by revelation
- God's love for us is demonstrated in the cross
John 20:30-31: "Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
John 2:16-18: "For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.”
God made His choice. God is love and in his unchanging nature sent his son to be our savior.
We make our choice. God has given all persons (the world) freedom of choice and He requires us to make a choice (believe or don’t believe).
1 Peter 1:8-9: "Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy, because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
Romans 5:8: "But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”
CONNECTION CARD
- Easy: I will share one thing I love about Jesus.
- Medium: I will post a video telling people about the things I love most about Christmas.
- Hard: I will be bold and share about negative things that I have found love in the past, and tell about how Jesus is better.
