Years ago, 1984 to be exact, there was a commercial on the TV of a baker who woke up very early in the morning and he is seen saying, “Time to make the donuts.” It was designed to show that Dunkin Donuts were freshly made daily. But, in addition to that I believe it showed that the baker woke early and went to work because that was his chosen career. Peter and John were on their way to work, that was their chosen career. No one met them that day and said; Hey guys it’s time to go to work. They knew it was time to work. In Acts chapter 3 we clearly see that now that Jesus has ascended into heaven and the Holy Spirit has been given to believers, the task of daily engagement with the world is the task of the church. Yep, that’s you and me. 

Acts 3:1-6 The lame man in today’s text believed money was the answer to his pressing need. That’s not unreasonable to believe. After all, it takes money to live, eat, pay bills, and exist. But was that really the deepest need of the lame man? And how about you and me today? What is really our deepest need?

Acts 3:7-11 Only the Lord can meet our deepest needs. This is demonstrated in the actions of the lame man after he is healed. He is leaping and praising God. When God reaches into your life and does a great work, go tell someone.

Acts 3:12-26 The challenge of the Living Faith in our communities where we work is to remember there is always an opportunity to present Jesus to lost people. We can meet needs and see people better off than they were, but it is ultimately Jesus that our people need. We should be like the lame man, astonished and running, announcing the message that Jesus has our deepest need on His radar.
