Teacher: Autumn Wall Series: Out of the Box
October 8, 2017
Worship
Today for our out of the box, we want to worship a lot (because He is worthy of it),
but we also want to pause throughout our worship to reflect on and to instruct what corporate worship should be.
There’s a purpose,
a plan in worship
There are 3 main types of worship songs:
(1) Call to Worship Songs
(2) Proclamation Songs
(3) Response Songs
(1) Call to Worship Songs
1. Encourage the people of God to worship
2. Call out the promises of God
3. Give us a starting place to begin to focus our hearts and minds on Him
This is Amazing Grace
Grace: the power of God to do the will of God
When we sing this song, it’s a reminder of How God is moving in us and around us.
How He is so worthy of my everything in THIS MOMENT because of His sacrifice on the cross.
Revelation 5:11-13
11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:
"Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!"
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
"To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"
This song calls us to remember what He is doing and what He has done so we focus our hearts on Him as we come into worship.
Call Upon the Lord
Verse:
We need no other hiding place
Psalm 32:7
"You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance."
Our hope is safe within Your Name
Proverbs 18:10
The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe
This we know.
You promise never to forsake
Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
What You began you will sustain.
Philippians 1:6
He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion
This we know.
All of the heavens and the earth announce the fullness of your worth
Psalm 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
And every enemy will flee as we declare your victory
James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you
This we know.
Chorus:
Psalm 18: 3-4, 16-17
I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.. He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
Bridge:
John 8:36
He who the son has set free is free indeed
Philippians 2:10
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(2) Proclamation Songs
These songs are proclaiming God’s name, who He is and what He has done for us.
Giving God the glory and praising Him for what He has done and what He continues to do in our lives day in and day out.
Resurrecting
Your name your name is victory, all praise will rise to Christ our King.
John 16:33
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
Jesus is victorious - I love that word "overcome", he has overcome, he has conquered, he is victorious over the world. We will face stuff day in and day out but our hope is in Jesus and that’s why we sing "your name your name is victory, all praise will ride to Christ our King"
By your spirit I will rise, from the ashes of defeat, the resurrected king is resurrecting me! in your name I come alive, to declare your victory, the resurrected king, is resurrecting me.
What SHOULD have belonged to the grave was death and what SHOULD have belonged to death was Jesus, because he died on the cross. But Jesus defeated death, Jesus came back to life and now because of Him we can all come to life through Jesus. Jesus robbed the grave
(3) Response Songs
These are the types of songs where we pour out our hearts to God worshiping him in response to what He is speaking/doing in us.
Songs where we sing out our need for Him.
Where we beg Him to expose every part of our hearts so we can grow and change.
But only in response can we be fully transformed.
Here’s My Heart
Psalm 139:1-14, 23-24
1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. 5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well….
23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Asking God to take our hearts, search them, know them, and test them is a GREAT response to be humble before God in His presence.

Yes, Lord

All of these songs (and more) are cries out to God to change us. To make us new. To commit our hearts back to Him yet again. Our response to what He is doing/saying in the moment.
Communication Card
