Personal Heart of God
The Holy Spirit:
For Us vs For Others

God Working In Us, For Us

Mark 13:9-11
9 “You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. 11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

Acts 9:10-12
10 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!”
“Yes, Lord,” he answered.
11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”

Acts 20:22-23
22 “And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me.

Ultimately the Holy Spirit is an advocate for you:
Advocate - a person who publicly supports or recommends
a particular cause or policy.

John 14:16
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever

John 14:26
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The Holy Spirit and His giftings are not there to allow for: laziness, showing off, or your excitement. He’s there to build His Kingdom, and when your life is all about building His Kingdom, you are more likely to be built up in the process.

Got Working Through Us, For Others

None of us has everything we need!  We all have different talents, different callings, and different giftings.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

… Then it gets into the list of spiritual gifts: Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miraculous Powers, Prophesy, Distinguishing of Spirits (Discernment), Speaking in Tongues, and Interpretation of Tongues. Then it goes directly to talking about the Church working together in unity, and flourishing in diversity.

1 Corinthians 12:12-20
12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
