Resting Well in God

Matthew 11:28-30

Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Rest is based on the direction of God, not a lack of responsibility.  Rest is a call to relationship with God.

Physical Rest

God wants us to have rest in our lives.

When you rest, you are trusting God with your productivity

Mental Rest

Busyness is at an epidemic state in our culture. It’s not only completely taking over our time but I believe it’s completely taking over our hearts. We get so much affirmation out of being busy. So much of our self worth comes from being busy.

Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 5:7
7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Let go, and LET GOD BE GOD

Spiritual Rest

Sabbath -

Exodus 20:8
8 Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

The Sabbath is God giving us spiritual rest because He knows we need it!  If we go non-stop we’re going to burn out and He doesn’t want that for us!

So, we’re called to make it holy and holiness means being set apart.

Being Content with God -

Matthew 11:30
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

He’s saying that when you strap in with him,  and let Him lead and learn from Him, His yoke will be easy.

Living out our purpose makes what we do restful.  When he calls us to things in our lives, we are sharing the yoke with him.  When we make up our own minds, and set our own priorities, and set our own schedules we are potentially putting a yoke on that God is not under with us.

Communication Card

- I will get more physical rest to follow God better in my day-to-day.
- I will figure out how I rest best, and practice that.
- I will pick a Sabbath day, and keep it as time for God.
