Christmas is an excuse for us to get out of our norm, and throw a big birthday party for Jesus…
1. Jesus’ Birth is Worth Celebrating
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
God Himself loved you so much that he was willing to come HIMSELF, in the flesh, to make sure you fully understood how much He loves you. That is worth celebrating!
2. Jesus HIMSELF is worth celebrating
26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
We get to know GOD personally. That’s a big part of why Christmas is worth celebrating.
3. We Choose to Focus on the Birthday Boy.
It is easy to get stressed out when we’re throwing a birthday party, and it can easily be that way with us during Christmas too. We need to remember that it’s about Jesus, and we should always strive to make that bring us back to a place of Joy.
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
This Christmas, choose joy!
I am going to choose an attitude of joy this Christmas season.
I am going to party hard to celebrate Jesus!
This is what I’m working on to prepare for this season: ___________________________________________
