Teacher: Yale Wall Series: Disaster Scenario

AUGUST 21, 2022

Disaster Scenario

NOAH

Ephesians 4:1
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

Philippians 1:27
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.

Colossians 1:10
so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

2 Thessalonians 1:11
With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling

1 Timothy 3:4
Paul says that pastors have to lead their families:
in a manner worthy of full respect

1 Timothy 3:8
it says that deacons are to live:
worthy of respect

1 Timothy 3:11
it says that women are to live:
worthy of respect

Titus 2:2
it says that older men in the church are to live:
worthy of respect

We as Christians need to live a life worthy of the gospel we've been given.

We have become so deceived, that we are in a place where we are soft with believers and harsh with unbelievers, when it should so obvioulsly be the other way around!

In the “Disaster Scenario” sermon series, we’re looking at people in scripture
who were hit with something disastrous in their lives and we’ll be looking at how they responded, in both good and bad ways.

Noah

1. Noah was at least 500 years old
.

2. God looks at the people that He made
a nd was disgusted by their propensity for evil.
Genesis 6:5-6
5
The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.

3. Then God decides to do a “re-start” of the human race.

Genesis 6:7

So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”

4. God sees the actions of Noah

Genesis 6:8
But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

5. Then God asks Noah to do this seemingly crazy thing:
Genesis 6:14-15

14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it:

6. In the end, Noah, his family,
and 2 of every kind of animal got on the ark, and they all lived while everything else died.

But here’s the key thing to hit on with Noah:

His Discipline.

Think about the faithfulness of that man, to know beyond a shadow of a doubt what God had spoken, and to devote 50-75 years of his life, all day, every day, to this thing that he had absolutely no context for!

God didn’t choose Noah because of good intentions, He chose Noah because of Godly actions, and the fact that Noah had PROVED his faithfulness to God.

IN YOUR DISASTER SCENARIO, WHERE EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART… ARE YOU GOING TO DISCIPLINE YOURSELF TO DO THE WILL OF GOD NO MATTER WHAT, DAY IN AND DAY OUT, AND LIVE A LIFE WORTHY OF THE LORD?
