Job 3:1-3, 11
1 After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. 2 He said:
3 “May the day of my birth perish,
and the night that said, ‘A boy is conceived!’

11 “Why did I not perish at birth,
and die as I came from the womb?

Job 2:11-13
11 When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him. 12 When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. 13 Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was.

ELIPHAZ

Job 4:1-8
1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
2 “If someone ventures a word with you, will you be impatient?
But who can keep from speaking?
3 Think how you have instructed many,
how you have strengthened feeble hands.
4 Your words have supported those who stumbled;
you have strengthened faltering knees.
5 But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged;
it strikes you, and you are dismayed.
6 Should not your piety be your confidence
and your blameless ways your hope?
7 “Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished?
Where were the upright ever destroyed?
8 As I have observed, those who plow evil
and those who sow trouble reap it.

Eliphaz: 1st Speech
“The Formula for Good Life”
Do Good + Love God = God’s Blessing
Do Bad + Evil + Unwise = God’s Punishment

Job's Response:
Job 6:29
Relent, do not be unjust;
reconsider, for my integrity is at stake.

BILDAD

Job 8:5-6
5 But if you will seek God earnestly
and plead with the Almighty,
6 if you are pure and upright,
even now he will rouse himself on your behalf
and restore you to your prosperous state.

Job's Response:
Job 9:2
“Indeed, I know that this is true.
But how can mere mortals prove their innocence before God?

Job 9:3
Though they wished to dispute with him,
they could not answer him one time out of a thousand.

Job 9:15
Though I were innocent, I could not answer him;
I could only plead with my Judge for mercy.

Job 9:33
If only there were someone to mediate between us,
someone to bring us together

ZOPHAR

Job 11:13-14
13 “Yet if you devote your heart to him
and stretch out your hands to him,
14 if you put away the sin that is in your hand
and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,

ELIHU

Job 32:1-3
So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. 2 But Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God. 3 He was also angry with the three friends, because they had found no way to refute Job, and yet had condemned him.

Job 37:14
“Listen to this, Job;
stop and consider God’s wonders.

1. There is no formula

2. Explore your heart and Ask: Any wrong Motive? Is God first?
(Psalm 139:23,24)

3. Accept God’s Sovereignty - He’s God
(Job 2:10, Job 12:13-16, Job 13:15)

4. What is God teaching me?

5. Remember sometimes He’s silent

and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
