God Giving Jesus
Genesis 2:15-17
When you were a kid, did you ever open a present that you didn't really want, but you came to find out you really needed it?
Genesis 2:15-17
15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
1 Peter 2:24
"He himself bore our sins" in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by his wounds you have been healed."
So Jesus saved the day, but was that the original plan? No, the original plan was that we wouldn’t sin at all. God’s plan was not to send Jesus, but to just be with us from the beginning. Jesus coming down to us was necessary.
Often we focus too much on the sin… We think about how bad we are and how much we need Jesus. But it’s not nearly as much about the gift, it’s about the giver and the need that we have for Him.
Communication Card
- I will focus on the gift giver before the gift itself
- I will live differently this week knowing the sacrifice that God made
in sending Jesus
- I will treat this Christmas differently than I have in the past
