Broken Relationships

ENCOURAGING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

1. BE SELFLESS

There is no way a relationship will be good
if you are constantly trying to get something out of it for yourself,
and not caring about the other person.

Philippians 2:3-4

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

2. DON’T JUST KNOW SOMEONE BECAUSE YOU KNOW THEM,
INVEST IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM.

There is no such thing as a relationship that happens on accident.

Don’t just know people, consciously INVEST in them.

3. PRAY FOR PEOPLE OFTEN.

1 Timothy 2:1-4

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Pray especially for the people that
God has directly put in your life.

4. OUTWARDLY SHOW PEOPLE THAT YOU LOVE THEM.

Whatever it takes, make sure you are thinking through
how that person receives love,
and going out of your way to show them love
in a way they are wired to receive it.

5. DON’T ALWAYS HANG OUT WITH THE SAME KIND OF PERSON.

Often we gravitate to people that are exactly like us,
but that’s not always the most healthy.

Go out of your way to be friends with people who are:

  • a different personality from you

  • older or younger

  • a different background

  • a different culture

  • all around different from you
  • and some that are similar to you too

6. BE A PART OF THINGS BIGGER THAN YOURSELF TO LOVE PEOPLE THERE.

Having healthy relationships often means
being involved in organized things
and bringing a Christian perspective to them.

1 Corinthians 10:31

31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

7. DON’T THINK OF CHURCH OR LIFE GROUP AS SOMETHING THAT EXISTS OUTSIDE OF YOU, THINK OF IT AS SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF.

Living Faith is not Living Faith without you!

Your life group is not your life group without you!

Don’t think of those things as something that happens with or without you,
think of it as something that is worth being an integral part of
and go out of your way to invest in those relationships!

8. DON’T INVEST IN THINGS THAT DON’T MATTER, INVEST IN GOD AND PEOPLE.

Investing in STUFF only pays off for a LIFETIME,
investing in PEOPLE can pay off for an ETERNITY.

1 Timothy 6:6-7

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

Enjoy the people God has put in your life!. They are there for a reason, and you are in their lives for a reason!
