The Acts of the Apostles

ACTS 2:42-47

Acts 2:42-47

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[a] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

What are they doing?

Entire life devoted to Jesus
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[a] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.”

These early Christians were DEVOTED to the apostles teaching yes, but also to the fellowship with other believers. Devoted means wholly given over. As in this was THE MOST IMPORTANT thing in their lives.

Jesus redefined possessions
And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

So when the Holy Spirit is working among them they begin to care less about the things they cared about before. Possessions took on a new meaning. Resources devoted to their own well being became tools and resources to build a healthy community where everybody had enough.

A transformed life led to a transformed witness
And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

And since everybody had enough and they were so overwhelmed and excited about this faith that had redefined their purpose, their life, and their happiness, they rejoiced together.

And people took notice.

Do you have this?

Is your experience religion or the joy of relationship with Jesus?

Is your life defined by the joy and freedom of Christian community or is it bound by church?

Jesus is the way.

Romans 10:9
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

It's crazy simple, it comes with a crazy cost. The transformation of your entire life. But it is God who does the work.

Because when we accept Jesus he gives us the Holy Spirit.

John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Living Faith began as a small group because it was God on the move, and we believe they are the main avenue of transformation in our city.

Jesus sustains the work
Our life groups, any churches small groups, even the small groups we read about in the early church, were all completely and entirely motivated by and upheld by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is what made the early church different.

A life group is a place where the Gospel ESCAPES THE WALLS OF THE CHURCH.

God moves in you, moves in us, works in the city

Let God transform your life group.
